Sean Whelan (Wheelhouse, LLC) draws from a vast and varied job history to address customer needs. He holds certification in lead-safe renovation (RRP), and serves Wheelhouse as its sole carpenter. “I maintain and repair old houses, with a focus on window systems. I work to reproduce as accurately as possible the secondary window system – wooden storm windows and screens. The design I employ eliminates the weakest link in a historical storm sash: putty. Instead of putty glazing, I use modern non-siliconized caulk to form the seal between glass and wood. Additionally, the window sashes made at MNWheelhouse make use of modern joinery and adhesives, as well as modern coatings (primer and paint). Historical window systems provide ample protection from weather and energy loss. These are also easier to maintain, repair, and restore through the entire life of the building, versus modern replacement window systems which are meant to be entirely replaced every 15 years. My favorite job is removing old aluminum storms and replacing them with custom fitted wood storm windows.”
